Situated on the south west coast of Norway, Haugesund is just a one and a half hour flight time from Stanstead airport. Haugesund is the birthplace of the Vikings and is steeped in local history. It is situated right on the coast and set amongst the beautiful Norwegian Fjords. From a medical point of view Norway has the lowest MRSA rate in Europe.

Here at the Medical Travel Group we work in conjunction with a company called ‘Scan-Health’ which consists of a private hospital, a radiology centre and an infertility centre all located within close proximity to each other.

norway2In November 2004, the hospital received ISO approval (NS-EN ISO 9001: 2000 and NS-EN ISO 14001:1996) for their services in orthopaedics and ophthalmology. It is only one of a few to be awarded this certification.

Orthopaedic Department

norway3The Orthopaedic Department has its own hospital ward with four beds as well as an extensive outpatient surgery practice. The patients admitted to the ward, have mostly had operations for implanting prosthetic joints in their hips or knees.

norway4The ward only accommodates 4 inpatients at a time, so you will have full attention and care from the nurses and staff during your stay. The food, four meals a day, is delivered from the best gourmet restaurant in town. During your stay you will receive extensive rehabilitation with the hospitals physical therapist.

Scan Health have top-quality operating and recovery rooms and offer a wide range of operative procedures. The orthopaedic department have performed more than 1500 surgical procedures per year.

The orthopaedic surgeons have extensive experience in surgical procedures using endoscopes (”keyhole surgery”) and advanced prosthesis surgery involving total prosthetics for hips and knees as well as uni knee prosthetics. They have a new operating ward with advanced equipment for this purpose, and work in conjunction with their own anesthesiologists.

Ophthalmic Department – Eye Department
The eye department handles all types of eye-related problems, although there is a clear surgical profile. The section has its own surgical unit where we treat patients with cataracts and perform various sight-correcting procedures.

We possess the most advanced laser on the market for operating on near-sightedness and long-sightedness.

We can also perform operations for treating severe vision impairment using a technique known as ICL implantation.

ReStor® is a new revolutionary way to treat presbyopi. The Restor® intraocular lens (IOL) is designed to improve vision at all distances.

Radiology department
The radiology department carries out x-rays, CT scans, ultrasound, mammography, bone density measuring and MRI scans. The aim of the department is to:

  • Deliver the best possible service to patients and referring doctors.
  • Provide the latest state of the art scanning technology.
  • Employ radiographers and radiologists that are the best in their field.

IVF & Fertility Centre
The IVF & Fertility Center was opened in April 2006. We provide compassionate, complete care, and offer the latest technologies and methods in top quality facilities.

Led by Director Dr. Jon Wegner Hausken, our team is uniquely qualified to treat complex infertility-related disorders. Dr. Hausken is a highly skilled gynecologist and reproductive endocrinologist, and the former chief gynecologist of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at Haugesund Regional Hospital. He is the author of numerous scientific publications and has proven remarkably good results from his work.

The Surgeon’s
hansjacobMr. Hans Jacob Rossebø MD – is the head surgeon of the orthopaedic department at ScanHealth Scandinavia. He was trained at the County Hospital i Haugesund, Ullevål University Hospital and Buskerud Hospital Trust. He worked many years as the head surgeon at the County Hospital in Haugesund’s daycare unit. Our orthopaedic surgeon is specialist in prosthetic surgery and in endoscopic surgery (”keyhole surgery”) and performs more than 1500 operations a gunnaryear.

Mr. Kjell Gunnar Gundersen Ph.D – The head physician for the eye department at Privatsykehuset Haugesund. He was trained at the County Hospital in Haugesund, Haukeland Hospital, and the University Hospital of Malmø. He took his Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of Lund, Sweden. Mr. Kjell Gunnar Gundersen has 15 years of experience in eye surgery and performs more than 2000 operations a year.
